Delivering trusted and timely luminescence dating.

We deliver trusted and timely luminescence dating with the support you need so that you can quickly and confidently progress your heritage management and research projects.

Research is at the core of Vicus’ operations.

We are testing and refining methods for non-routine samples and complex archaeological sites to improve the utility and accessibility of luminescence dating.

Dating sediments

We analyse sediment samples from a range of depositional environments and archaeological contexts. These include rockshelter, slope, river, coastal, dune, lake and glacial deposits.

Measurement and analysis can be conducted at the multi-grain aliquot or single-grain level. High-resolution, single-grain luminescence ages can be generated for Australian sites in eight weeks*. International samples may take longer.

Dating lithic artefacts and rocks

We are refining techniques for directly dating buried lithic artefacts and rocks. This enables dating of rock-based sites such as stone arrangements and structures and fish traps.

We are also exploring the application of rock surface exposure dating to characterise the amount of time that a rock surface has been exposed to sunlight.

Dating pottery and buildings

Vicus is equipped to date pottery sherds as well as building materials such as adobe bricks.

We are expanding our capabilities by testing and developing novel dating approaches for new materials.
